Teach Your Kids to Brush Their Teeth

Posted .

Kid’s never come with training manuals, so how do you know when to start teaching kids about their oral health? Luckily, our team here at The Dental Studio in Sandy, Utah, is happy to help you guide your children to learn great oral health habits like brushing their teeth.

It is always important to begin teaching your children about their oral care at a young age. This is because if they learn healthy habits at a young age, this will help them with positive oral health throughout their entire life. Dr. David S. Peterson cares about your child’s smile and oral health, which is why he is happy to provide you these tips to begin your child’s oral health education.

In most cases, because young children do not know how to brush their teeth properly, remember to always provide assistance. Remember to choose a soft-bristled toothbrush and angle it towards the gums and teeth. Teach your child to move it gently and slowly back and forth along the teeth and gums. Also, don’t forget to brush the tongue, so you can remove any other bacteria on the surface.

Regular dental visits should start as early as six months after the first tooth arrives, or after the child’s first birthday. The sooner they are exposed and familiar with the dentist and oral health habits, the healthier their oral health can be long-term throughout their lifetime.
