Winter is right around the corner, which means it’s time to prepare for the weather, holidays, and much more. You can also prepare for your smile if you’re feeling up to it. To help you, our dentist, Dr. David S. Peterson, has some tips and recommendations that can help you protect your smile while you participate in winter sports and activities.
The first thing you should do is wear a mouth guard. This is especially recommended when you participate in more dangerous winter activities, like skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. However, it can also be beneficial even when you’re having a snowball fight. So, make sure to guard your smile with a stock, boil-and-bite, or custom-made mouthguard.
The second thing you should do is avoid blows to the face as much as possible. It’s common to have accidents when you’re skiing, snowboarding, and sledding, like falling, running into trees or colliding with people. These accidents can cause severe harm to the smile, so it’s best to avoid them as much as possible. However, we understand this might be tough. So, make sure you wear a mouthguard when these accidents occur so your smile can be protected.
